Natural disaster weather forecast project
The students learned about natural disasters through project-based learning. They had to choose a natural disaster they felt most impacted society. Students then formulated their own questions for their research. After gathering their research, the students had to write a survival plan listing what they needed to do before, during, and after the natural disaster. They also had to list what they would need in their emergency safety kit. Students took the information they learned to write a narrative, acting as if they were in the middle of a natural disaster. A special thank you to the Douglas County Emergency Management Team for taking the time to come out and speak with the students about how to be prepared for a disaster and stay safe. Also, thank you to the classrooms in Arizona and Australia who took the time to Skype with us about natural disasters that occur in their community. Finally, thank you to meteorologist, Gary Lezak and his weather team for taking the time to judge the weather forecasts. It made this project much more relevant and meaningful to the students.
